From the founder and activist behind the largest movement of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, Tarana Burke shares her never before revealed life story of how she first came to say me too and launch one of the largest cultural events in American history.
After a long, difficult day working with young Black girls who had suffered the unimaginable, Tarana tossed in her bed, unable to sleep as a fit of memories intruded into her thoughts. How could she help these girls if she couldn’t even be honest with herself and face her own demons? A fitful night led to pages and pages of scribbled notes with two clear words at the top: Me too.
Tarana Burke is the founder and activist behind the largest social movement of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, the me too movement, but first she had to find the strength to say me too herself. Unbound is the story of how she came to those two words, after a childhood growing up in the Bronx with a loving mother that took a terrible turn when she was sexual assaulted. She became withdrawn and her self split: there was the Tarana that was a good student, model kid, and eager to please young girl, and then there was the Tarana that she hid from everyone else, the one she believed to be bad. The one that would take all the love in her life away if she revealed.
Tarana’s debut memoir explores how to piece back together our fractured selves. How to not just bring the me too movement back to empathy, but how to empathize with our past selves, with out bad selves, and how to begin to love ourselves unabashedly. Healing starts with empowerment, and to Tarana empowerment starts with empathy. This is her story of finding that for herself, and then spreading it to an entire world.

m_seitzz:
bigot - One who is strongly partial to one’s own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.
Wouldn’t blocking someone because of their group, religion, race, or politics make YOU a bigot? It’s an honest question…
March 9th, 2023
…your honest question may be moot, as he might not be able to see it.

Welcome to my block list, grond2.
To answer your question: No. Not tolerating intolerance is not bigotry, and not paradoxical either 🌈😘

So…justifying your intolerance to bigotry by means of intolerance and bigotry.
That’s just weird…

” a person who is illiberally attached to any opinion, system of belief, or party organization; an intolerant dogmatist.”
That’s just about everybody these days. :-(
I like the artwork on the cover so 3 stars

Whatever about the vexed question of intolerance of intolerance (people will inevitably resolve that one for themselves), such a blocking dynamic does seem necessary. Not everyone wants to be exposed to the kind of material that’s been posted in the last few wks, which constitutes the worst I’ve ever witnessed on the site. These aren’t arguable, sophisticated, alternative viewpoints, by any means.
By way of example: multiple instances of Holocaust denial, & assoc anti-Semitism; the worst racial slurs in the language; linking people of “other races” to contagion (an intensely 1930s energy); pro forma pro-Putin propaganda; & one unutterable “useful” id!ot mounting a one-man pro-North Korea propaganda campaign, linking to youtube videos which carefully outline how great the Kim regime happens to be (any other position is “Western lies!” & in any event, “WhatAboutAmerica?!”). This guy will swallow anything, up to & incl Kool-Aid. Routine genocide denial also features.
In light of all this darkness, a quick technical fix, with exclusionary powers, does have its attractions. This place is no longer the refined & erudite 18th Century salon that it once had the potential to become.

If you don’t care to read something just don’t download it. I’m not a fan of all the gay porn books that get uploaded but I am not their intended audience. If you see something you don’t like just scroll that mouse wheel down till you find your thing.
The comments section of a pirate book site is not the place to proselytize.

>Not tolerating intolerance
IOW creating a safe space for yourself so you’re never troubled by differing viewpoints. Typical libtard: only comfortable in a libtard echo chamber.

@arcadies I whole-heartedly agree!…with your first paragraph. I’m sure they’re great stories but the M/M keyword isn’t my cup of tea either. It does make me happy to see so much of it freely available to those who historically never enjoyed the variety they can today, even if it means a lot of scrolling.
I disagree [for the most part] about a pirate book site not being the place to proselytize. Judging by the kinds of books uploaded to the site and freely shared everyday, we are a smorgasbord of ideologies and demographics; from right-wing regurgitaters to [actually rather moderate] libtards; people male, female, and everywhere in between find community in this site by uniting behind a desire to listen to books. We are the world in a microcosm.
But, more importantly, while nobody (typically) changes anybody’s mind in a Comments section, there does exist a necessary discourse justifying a book’s existence, and this discourse does bring out the crazies when it involves race, women, alt-gender, and economics non-fiction. For someone undecided about a book or looking to educate themselves on a particular subject, the Comments section is perfect for weighing out the hateful comments versus opposing opinion, judging each based on whatever merit they offer and either joining in or not, downloading the book or not.
There’s an antisemitic book that makes an appearance every so often. To make it here, it had to (1) be written; (2) be published; (3) be recorded; (4) be bought; (5) be listened to and enjoyed enough to be worthy of uploading; and finally (6) uploading it. With the book/ebook-to-audio pipeline they have really gotten the hang of today, books even twenty years old are still hard to get unabridged audio copies of and this antisemitic book purports to be around sixty years old, updated of course for George Soros. That’s a big journey for such a garbage premise.
And the Comments are not shy about pointing out the dung-heap-on-fire logic behind the book. It’s a book that promises a truth and anybody clicking on that book interested in that particular truth will either be galvanized to download it based on the synopsis or find a different book about the Jewish experience with a Comments section a little kinder. Someone interested in downloading that kind of book [instead of simply clicking for the Comments section!] may also be soft enough to be convinced of its misinformation.
If @caesar93 can convince some poor schmo not to buy into the hate, I say proselytize away!
March 9th, 2023
I agree wholeheartedly with you, caesar963. The comments in question are not alternative viewpoints to start a discourse or challenge anyone’s viewpoint. They are “edgy” Alt-Right provocations “to start a fight”. They are a low effort way to suppress things they hate and/or don’t understand. The louder the edgelords scream, the more difficult it gets to hear the reasonable voice. In other words, censorship in places they can’t control otherwise.
Lately, the efforts have become “less subtle” … or, in other words, extremely lazy …
@arcadies Sure, I could ignore books I don’t want to read. But why make an effort when it’s not necessary.
I like High Fantasy, but I blocked LitRPGs uploads because they look like Fantasy uploads at first glance. Blocking is a more efficient way of piracy, with less disappointment 😁
Also, let’s turn your argument upside down: If you don’t like blocking uploads, just don’t do it. No one forces you to not ignore things you don’t care for … and spin that mouse wheel until it’s red hot 😉
