Abridged
The audiobook edition of The Gulag Archipelago by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, read by the author’s son, Ignat Solzhenitsyn.
With a new foreword written and read by Jordan B. Peterson and an exclusive Q&A between Jordan B. Peterson and Ignat Solzhenitsyn.
The officially approved abridgement of The Gulag Archipelago Volumes I, II & III.
A vast canvas of camps, prisons, transit centres and secret police, of informers and spies and interrogators but also of everyday heroism, The Gulag Archipelago is Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn’s grand masterwork. Based on the testimony of some 200 survivors and on the recollection of Solzhenitsyn’s own 11 years in labour camps and exile, it chronicles the story of those at the heart of the Soviet Union who opposed Stalin and for whom the key to survival lay not in hope but in despair.
A thoroughly researched document and a feat of literary and imaginative power, this edition of The Gulag Archipelago was abridged into one volume at the author’s wish and with his full co-operation.

Could this be the socialist paradise that the leftist\antifa are fighting for?

Could this be the socialist paradise that the leftist and Antifa are seeking?

@Highlandcharge,it is a matter of same horse but different rider.
‘It’s never been done right before’, they say ‘we know a better way to socialize the world.’ The rest of us know better.

@Highlandcharge So your contention is that if you are anti-fascist, you are pro Stalin.
OK, so by that logic since you are anti-communist, you must be pro Hitler.
Which I hope is wrong.
Or maybe your logic is stupid.

The difference between communism and socialism is the difference between murder and suicide. The end result is the same.

Whoa, for a minute there I thought the narrator was Jordan Peterson. Can you imagine listening to Kermit being strangled for 24 hours?
Happily, the funny little man just wrote a foreward, which will be eminently skippable.
Important historical work, this. Amusing, as ever, to see all the little mental midgets here trying to use it to illustrate their point - as if they’ve actually read it!!!

Ascetic Priests such as Peterson direct your resentment away from your own neurotic selves and towards some scapegoat or other because you can’t bear it. Least of all under capitalism, which has murder and suicide in higher numbers than socialism. So sad. See 3rd essay of On The Genealogy of Morality by Nietzsche, Peterson’s own hero, or The Invention of Capitalism.

they were provided food, shelter, and a guaranteed basic income. What’s not to like

@Gweilo - No such contention was made by Highlandcharge. The argument is yours.

One of the most important books of the 20th Century. A testament to courage and freedom in the face of totalitarianism and al its criminality, A lesson from history that one hopes will never be repeated Many thanks.

@MattyNk: Yes, sucb a “contention” was indeed made, quite deliberately. Pretend otherwise if you like.

The absence of private property ALWAYS leads to conflict, violence, and slavery. When no man has the motive to progress by creative labour, he is left only to enslave others and earn his living by political means. Communism/socialism/democracy is the ideology of the violent thug, the mob, the parasites and the productively and mentally inferior. When private property is absent in order to safeguard men from violence, slavery flourishes.

@dreakx: Did you just lump communism and socialism together with democracy? All right, then exactly what are you in favor of, if anything? Oligarchy?

Thank you, great work!

Aristotle said that the 3 bad forms of government were tyranny, oligarchy and democracy. To be clear, there is a difference between type of government and economic system/mode of production. Things dont just break down into a couple of neat little categories.

I agree with @tenbenson on this one. Why is Peterson featured in this audiobook? He has nothing to do with it. I don’t like communism as much as the next guy but the argument he provided against it is that (I’m paraphrasing) “there’s inequality in nature, therefore communism will never work” (or therefore, we should never confront these issues)… he’s a pseudointellectual.
If you listen to this, skip the first hour of the book. You will not regret it, 100%.

By the way, I’d easily listen to a Peterson lecture on psychology. He knows his field very well. But his observations outside of the field severely lack to the intellectuals and experts that are available.

This book takes the perspective of not only the prisoner, but the guards, and even further up the chain. Such books give the greatest insight.
10/10, a must listen. Especially for all ideologues.

The same international group of criminals are running the West today.
The methods are different, but the goal is the same.

NOOOO BUT COMMUNISM IS LE GOOD!!!!

Everything’s all here, but be warned, the narrator reads fairly choppily!
