There have been many biographies of Ronald Reagan, but none of them from a conservative perspective, and none using the extensive and often newly available documents from the Reagan Library and other archival material. REAGAN is the book Edmund Morris should have written, but failed. Even without first-hand access to Reagan himself, however, this biography makes use of large numbers of documents and interviews missing from other studies of the Gipper.

Remember that time when Reagan and Newt Gingrich killed the Fairness Doctrine, and it resulted in the rise of a propaganda machine that forced American politics so far to the right that these days, Reagan would be considered a radical liberal?

didn’t happen, although that would have been great if American politics had shifted right

Remember that time that the Iranians took a bunch of Americans hostage and Carter left them to rot for 444 days and then as soon as Reagan was president, they let the hostages go? I member. That was awesome.

Remember that time Reagan sold arms to Iran as a payment for Khomeini to not release hostages while Carter was still president?

How did Reagan, as a private citizen, conclude a comprehensive arms deal with a foreign country, concerning the sale of American weapons, in order for that foreign country to retain hostages illegally, in the hopes that he might one day be elected president, and then be able to conclude actual international deals?
Was he, in addition to being the Space Cowboy, a time-travelling superhero? Are such imaginary Constitutional powers encompassed by “The Powers of Might-Be President?

Carter was president during the negotiations for the release of the hostages and signed the Algiers accords on Jan 19, 1981- the day before Reagan was inaugurated. The hostages were released on the 20th.

The hostages were released the day Reagan took office not because of anything he had done, but was instead because Carter was so hated in Iran for his backing of the Shah, plain and simple. At a time when the Shah was kidnapping and killing political opponents, not to mention spending hundreds of millions of $$$$ on extravagant celebrations all while Iranians were starving, Carter hosted and then praised the Shah and pledged continued support for the man when many Iranians felt that if he had put pressure on the Shah things would have changed for them, that’s why they waited untill he was out of office to release them, simply to humiliate him.
