Tamimi’s father was born in 1967, the year that Israel began its occupation of the West Bank and he grew up immersed in the resistance movement. One of Tamimi’s earliest memories is visiting him in prison, poking her toddler fingers through the fence to touch his hand. She herself would spend her seventeenth birthday behind bars. Living through this greatest test and heightened attacks on her village, Tamimi felt her resolve only deepen, in tension with her attempts to live the normal life of a daughter, sibling, friend, and student.

Arafat, an Egyptian named Mohammed Abdel Rahman Abdel Raouf al-Qudwa al-Husseini, read Theodor Herzl’s book and decided to create a Palestinian movement whole cloth based on Herzl’s vision for The Jewish State.
Arafat’s movement presupposed that Arabs living in a certain geography could create a nationalist conscious if they joined his racist club, nothing more, lol.

I don’t need to read books about Palestine, I have heard enough from Palestinian friends - a professor on a legally permitted archaeological dig in Gaza and four young students shot by an Israeli fighter aircraft, who came back to shoot again. A friend and his family with an olive orchard which had been in their family for hundreds of years bulldozed to make way for blocks of flats and huge boulders placed on the access road to his house. A care package I sent to another family with childrens’ clothes, packets of soup, sauce mixes and toiletries opened by the Israeli post and the contents replaced with stones wrapped in Israeli newspaper… I could go on. Israel is now nearly twice as big as it was when the state of Israel was founded - the land has been stolen and is still being stolen every day. Even my Israeli (Jewish) academic friends do not agree with the practise.

Say what you want, in 2017 I was in “Israel” I stayed in the old city for 10 days, from there I went to Bethlehem, a Palestinian christian city. What I saw there before tourist were shown not so politely I might add,out of the city limits so the IDF could do what they do best agitate, and brutalize Christians near the Church of the Nativity. It’s mentally toxic. The toxicity of hatred that originates from guilt, will start to effect those on which that hatred wasn’t intended to be focused on, like family and friends,it can’t be helped. Those in Israel today who still blindly tow the hard line,that everything is justified,the world’s against us,we have to keep faith with the policies of our gov’t right or wrong, know that consensus is ever so slowly dwindling away. Hopefully, the youth of that nation will grow out of the programing they received at infancy, or the nation will implode on itself. it’s just a matter of time.
