Nicky Welsh, John Ludden - My United Road
“For as long as I can remember, whenever I was asked, ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ I always gave the same reply: ‘I’m going to play for the Reds. Manchester United. Nobody else matters.’”
Manchester, 1974, and seven-year-old Nicky Welsh is about to set foot in Old Trafford for the first time. This is the beginning of a five-decade love affair with football and a passion for Manchester United that will define Nicky’s life for ever.
My United Road tells the true story of the fan who made it onto the pitch - almost. Signed for Manchester United from school as an apprentice, then a professional, surrounded by legends in the making, Nicky found himself on the cusp of a brilliant football career…which never happened.
By turns humorous and humbling, Nicky’s book is the story of a dream that so nearly came true, and a history of the Reds from the 1970s to the present day, told with passion and wit by someone who saw it from the inside. His story may be personal, but it will mean something to anyone who knows what it means to love your club, who dreams of wearing its shirt, and whose heart has soared and sunk in the stands.

Michael Carrick - Michael Carrick: Between the Lines: My Autobiography
‘The whistle blows, and I set off for the one kick I know will stay with me for the rest of my life, maybe even define my life….’
Michael Carrick was the heartbeat of Manchester United. For more than a decade he was the player that made them tick. Loved by his managers, lauded by his fellow professionals, worshipped by the Old Trafford faithful yet regularly misunderstood by the wider public, Carrick was a player like no other.
Intelligent, calm, thoughtful - in many ways the opposite of the archetypal English midfielder - Carrick has always been his own man and is typically forthright. In his book he reveals what it’s really like to win relentlessly under legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson, shows us the hidden secrets of the famous Carrington training ground, invites us to experience the camaraderie and clashes inside the United dressing room and lets us feel what it’s like to walk out on the Old Trafford pitch alongside some of the biggest names in the game - from Ronaldo to Scholes to Giggs, Rooney and the rest.
A deeply personal book, Between the Lines reveals for the first time Michael’s battles with mental health and his struggles with the national side as well as the redemption he has found with his family and his team.
From growing up in the northeast to winning the Champions League and five Premier League titles with Manchester United, via West Ham and Tottenham, Carrick’s story reveals him to be his own man: fearless, thoughtful, intelligent and honest.
All of Michael Carrick’s proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to the Michael Carrick Foundation, dedicated to providing financial support to community services that will give underprivileged children living in the North and North East better opportunities so that they feel safe, valued and inspired.

Bobby Charlton - My Manchester United Years
Bobby Charlton is Manchester United through and through. He was a member of the original “Busby Babes” and has devoted his career to the club, playing in 754 games over 17 years. During that period he won everything the game had to offer, played alongside such greats as Best and Law, suffered devastating defeats, and was involved in one of the greatest football tragedies of all time.
Here, for the very first time, he tells the story of those United years. With his beloved Reds, he tasted FA Cup victory in the emotional final of 1963, won three first division championships, and in 1968 reached the pinnacle of club success, winning the European Cup.
Inevitably, such highs are balanced with no less dramatic lows, such as the 1957 European Cup semi-final, the highly charged 1958 FA Cup loss (which followed only weeks after the horrors of the Munich Air disaster), and the 1969 European Cup defeat by Milan. He is one of the true gentlemen of football, and the legacy that Bobby Charlton gives to United is beyond compare.

Jamie Jackson - The Red Apprentice: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: The Making of Manchester United’s Great Hope
When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer returned to Old Trafford as caretaker manager midway through the 2018-19 season, he breathed new life into a team that was drifting. In this new and definitive biography, Jamie Jackson investigates why he was the perfect man for the job to bring back the glory days.
After the confusion under David Moyes, the stagnation of Louis van Gaal and the growing trauma under Jose Mourinho, Manchester United was a club increasingly struggling to challenge for major honours, something the fans had been accustomed to during the reign of Sir Alex Ferguson.
So when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, a match-winning hero of the Reds’ great Treble-winning side returned to Old Trafford on 19th December 2018 as caretaker manager, he was welcomed with open arms. Here was a man who understood what it was that the fans demanded and he had a plan to give it to them.
They went on a record-breaking run of victories that secured him the position on a permanent basis, before old frailties re-emerged, showing the scale of the job he had always dreamed of taking on. During the summer transfer window, he began a dramatic reshaping of the team’s personnel to set them up for the 2019-20 season.
The Red Apprentice, Jamie Jackson’s fascinating biography of Solskjaer, takes the listener back to the Norwegian’s early days to discover the making of the man, relives the highlights of a stunning playing career - and that Champions League-clinching goal in 1999 - and explains why he is the natural choice for United in the future.
