Director Dick Powell, many of the actors John Wayne, Susan Hayward, Pedro Armendariz, Thomas Gomez, Agnes Moorehead, and several of the crew members later fell victim to cancer.
A People magazine article in 1980 reported that of 220 cast and crew, 91 had contracted cancer, with 46 of them dying.

They used rubber bands to make his eyes look Asian.

Maybe fallout contributed to Wayne’s cancer, but he was also a chain smoker, had lung cancer in 1964 and had a lung removed.
