Senator Joseph McCarthy is remembered as a self-serving and hypocritical man who recklessly destroyed people’s lives through anticommunist witch hunting. This re-evaluation shows that the more that is learnt about communism in America, the more McCarthy is proven to be accurate in his charges.

revisionist history

You really need to listen to the entire collection of the McCarthy tapes. I am a history buff and I know there are different versions of history and you have to read the versions to find the truth. The tapes of McCarthy and his hearings…I felt….revisionist history? Politically biased narratives that kids, like yours truly were taught. I will listen to this book, but no book on the man is able to explain what really happened and why. He was popular for a reason, Nixon did the same thing in the Senate to become popular. Would like to hear the Senate subcommitee, but McCarthy’s got 54 hours of history from the people who made it. Witch hunt?
You will see an US government employee base that is down right scary. I mean communists would admit, straight up. Card carrying members bragging about it. I know the cold war, much later exposed communisms flaws. But I challenge you to listen to the tapes, even my socialist friends here, then tell me you think McCarthy was wrong…Political witch-hunt? Not when they admit it, lol. Yeah, you will feel a little less confident about your knowledge of history. Makes you question what you have been taught. Makes you question the consensus. So my view went from a political hothead that went to far, to feeling McCarthy was a hero. He lost his parties support so both sides killed the man, but he was dealing with something that our modern congress, both parties would crucify people upside down for. I know, 54 hours is allot, but if you want unbiased history and its available on a media, then go to the source.

Thank you very much. Herman’s book on MacArthur was excellent. Nice to see him writing on Mr. McCarthy.

Excellent read.
Another book I can suggest is “Blacklisted By History” by M. Stanton Evans.
The main stream media whitewash is heavy on vilevication, but little on facts.

As bad as McCarthy was, he was largely a puppet of Roy Cohn, one of the truly evil humans to ever walk the Earth. His most severe sin was his frequent waving of carefully folded papers, claiming that he had a list of Communists or Commie sympathizers. He gave different numbers every time he waved those likely blank papers. he went too far, and once his star began to fade, Cohn abandoned ship, leaving McCarthy to twist in the wind. Sadly, Cohn gets little credit for his work.
For example, McCarthy himself didn’t want to go after the Army. That was entirely Cohn’s idea, motivated by the Army’s refusal to show favoritism to Cohn’s golden boy, and possible lover, G. David Schine. McCarthy’s attack on the Army was his famous undoing. Not long after Cohn’s departure, McCarthy succumbed to death by way of alcohol.
Not saying that McCarthy did his fair share of evil in his time, just simply pointing out the dominating presence of Cohn (who was also Donald Trump’s mentor) in McCarthy’s worst excesses.

Also worth mentioning that, since the collapse of the Soviet Union and the subsequent release of the Venona Papers and other Soviet intelligence, we now know that there were, in fact, Communists who’d infiltrated the American government in nearly every aspect of our “intelligence” apparatus. But McCarthy never caught a single one of them. Not one.
You’ll see many authors (Ann Coulter in particular) attempt to rehabilitate McCarthy’s reputation by pointing out that there were Commies infiltrating our government essentially from the end of WWII. And they’re right- there were several Communist agents inside various areas of our government. But it is still necessary to mention that McCarthy never laid his greasy hands on a single one of them, which makes him even worse in my humble opinion.
