From a powerful new voice on racial justice, an eye-opening account of growing up Black, Christian, and female in middle-class white America.
Austin Channing Brown’s first encounter with a racialized America came at age 7, when she discovered her parents named her Austin to deceive future employers into thinking she was a white man. Growing up in majority-white schools, organizations, and churches, Austin writes, “I had to learn what it means to love blackness,” a journey that led to a lifetime spent navigating America’s racial divide as a writer, speaker and expert who helps organizations practice genuine inclusion.
In a time when nearly all institutions (schools, churches, universities, businesses) claim to value “diversity” in their mission statements, I’m Still Here is a powerful account of how and why our actions so often fall short of our words. Austin writes in breathtaking detail about her journey to self-worth and the pitfalls that kill our attempts at racial justice, in stories that bear witness to the complexity of America’s social fabric–from Black Cleveland neighborhoods to private schools in the middle-class suburbs, from prison walls to the boardrooms at majority-white organizations.
For readers who have engaged with America’s legacy on race through the writing of Ta-Nehisi Coates and Michael Eric Dyson, I’m Still Here is an illuminating look at how white, middle-class, Evangelicalism has participated in an era of rising racial hostility, inviting the reader to confront apathy, recognize God’s ongoing work in the world, and discover how blackness–if we let it–can save us all.

Sad book for and by sad racists

spectralwizard and Hejja. You people aren’t fooling anyone. You’re the racists. Social justice actually has a meaning beyond the meme bs you think it is. What’s sad is you two popping in on anything with black people in it and saying more inane, factually wrong and racist bs. That’s sad. And kinda funny. But not haha funny.

Keep believing that narrative as they cull us all into a totalitarian hell.
Come on people, we are losing our freedom, stability, choice to live the kind of lives that we choose to or some approximation. As long as they can keep us divided the easier they can conquer us.

Ah! More lovely racist rhetoric from “The right side of history”.
Gotta love it.

Another SJW babble, hateful scree.
Why doesn’t the black community look in the mirror and see the reasons for many of its ills and problems?
Ugly Racism disguised as justified anger.
Central theme: {all white people are ignorant and dangerous and all black people are persecuted and misunderstood}
Get therapy

Martin Luther King out….. present day Marxist racists in!
These leftists have forgotten the speeches and teachings of MLK. They invoke him when it only benefits their radical cause…..
We are seeing more racism… it is just not coming from those who are being demonized! If there was institutionalized racism in all walks of life, as they screech, Obama would not have been President, as an example. However, Obama did bring racism from a whole new level!

@bosk You took the words right out of my mouth. Race relations in the U.S. were better than they had ever been, and getting better, until Obama.
He found a way to re-tool outrage to his political benefit. Outrage based on a non-existant crisis.
It’s amazing people bought into this obvious lie, but when you live at a time when people can be convinced that men who claim to be women ARE women, then nothing should surprise.

How about we start looking at it differently then the government portrays. We have 1 race and thats the human race. God created us all. The Government put us in categories and crayon boxes. We need to stand together before our country is no more. So stop with the name calling and actually have conversations without fighting. I AM HUMAN

A Pox on all racists.
Racism went underground after Civil Rights legislation in the 1960s. Not because racists suddenly became non-racists, but because they had to pretend to be non-racists so their businesses could sell to African-Americans. They needed the money.
For those without critical thinking skills: How were slaves policed before they were freed? Now, THINK. How were the slaves polices AFTER they were freed? ANSWER: the SAME way. Whites controlled all those systems: Law enforcement, local and state governments, and the judicial systems. They slowly codified more of their racism and racist attitudes into the law, into the people who replaced them, and into their descendants. Those are the same systems we have today. The study of the history of white people embedding racism in all systems of jurisprudence and their descendants to perpetuate the system IS Critical Race Theory. CRT isn’t Black History. Its Racist White History in Governmental Systems. It is taught as upper level courses in colleges and law schools. People who want to keep the history and contributions of minorities out of elementary, middle and high schools are the real racists. Book burning and destroying public education are the main ways to perpetuate racism today.
Also: Obama did not cause a new surge of racism. He was elected because Bush and Cheney are incompetent
boobs. Those two and their henchmen got us into two 20 year wars so the military industrial complex and Big Business could make trillions ON OUR TAX DOLLARS. The racists who existed before Obama’s election were the racists who existed afterward. Open racism and Trump’s election are the BACKLASH to Obama’s existence. TRUMP’s open racism made racism and backlash cool for 30% of our population: the Racist Dregs of America. Corporate media colluded with Big Business to get Trump elected. They all knew he was a racist,
incompetent, vile a$$hole. It will take time, but the rest of us, the 70% percent of America, will bury you back into the holes from which you came.

Made for Whiteness? Yea, tell that Obama, Denzil Washington, Beyonce, Opra, Michael Jordan, Michael Jackson, King Lebrain and all the other black millionaires that live like kings in the USA. Not seeing too much racism towards them.
The ONLY difference between these black millionaires and the rest of the poor blacks is one thing.
Hard Work.

Once we take over these savage whites, we should stop them from posting their bile online… Ban the white men from talking, a day coming very soon….

Nothing wrong with being a bit “racist”, races and cultures exhibit different behaviors based on different biology and values, everyone has in-group preferences, it’s OK to be proud of your culture and tradition, doesn’t mean you hate anyone, it’s like when you love your family best, doesn’t mean you hate other families or wish them harm. This caricature of racism that books like this and the media are trying to portray, though, it doesn’t even exist, no white person is racist that way. Funny fact, racism wasn’t even a thing anymore till Occupy Wall Street movement, almost no one saw it as a problem, no law discriminated any minority, but Occupy Wall Street scared the privileged elites so much they started to turn the attention from class to race and the Democratic party and the media ran with it and will eventually cause either a race war or, preferably, partition of US, let each half have their own country and run it as they see fit, this here now doesn’t make sense for either side.

This one is just a book to give racists an excuse to be racists against white people. It’s funny the length people will go to just to blame their own incompetence on some vague entity or “power” for their problems and failures. This is even worse then saying “we need to give stolen land back to the indigenous natives”. Yeah funfact the land was never theirs in the first place, they either took it from others or mother nature. This is why they laughed when the colonists gave them free stuff to move off new york. The concept of land ownership back then was not even a thing to them.(btw I am one of those “indigenous natives” and it is one of the dumbest things ever…almost as stupid as this book.

This story follows the author’s journey to self-worth as she writes about her Christian, middle-class upbringing, her attendance in predominantly white schools, and the jobs in which she was the only or one of the few black women in her workplace.
If that sounds like an interesting read, ignore the nasty comments of some offended racists here.

The self-pity club never stops in a world where no-one can accept responsibility for their own actions.
The only racists here are the author and those giving this book 5 stars.
They can’t wait to sew division on behalf of their globalist masters anything but see the truth of where actual injustice stems from.

koloko - Show us one predominantly black 1st world country (and wasn’t built into one via white infrastructure, etc). “Getting rid of whites” isn’t going to give you Wakanda, it’s going to give you a third world s-hole…but people like you are too dumb to think that far ahead.
