“A much-needed portrait of the life, times, and martyrdom of George Floyd, a chronicle of the racial awakening sparked by his brutal and untimely death, and an essential work of history I hope everyone will read.”—Henry Louis Gates, Jr., author of The Black Church: This Is Our Story, This Is Our Song
The events of that day are now tragically familiar: on May 25, 2020, George Floyd became the latest Black person to die at the hands of the police, murdered outside of a Minneapolis convenience store by white officer Derek Chauvin. The video recording of his death set off the largest protest movement in the history of the United States, awakening millions to the pervasiveness of racial injustice. But long before his face was painted onto countless murals and his name became synonymous with civil rights, Floyd was a father, partner, athlete, and friend who constantly strove for a better life.
His Name Is George Floyd tells the story of a beloved figure from Houston’s housing projects as he faced the stifling systemic pressures that come with being a Black man in America. Placing his narrative within the context of the country’s enduring legacy of institutional racism, this deeply reported account examines Floyd’s family roots in slavery and sharecropping, the segregation of his schools, the overpolicing of his community amid a wave of mass incarceration, and the callous disregard toward his struggle with addiction—putting today’s inequality into uniquely human terms. Drawing upon hundreds of interviews with Floyd’s closest friends and family, his elementary school teachers and varsity coaches, civil rights icons, and those in the highest seats of political power, Washington Post reporters Robert Samuels and Toluse Olorunnipa offer a poignant and moving exploration of George Floyd’s America, revealing how a man who simply wanted to breathe ended up touching the world.

Book of Saint George Of Fentanyl.

Thanks

I’m sure the pregnant woman that Saint George stuck a gun into to her stomach and got his 5 year plea deal in TX will really appreciate this book.
Or the 270 businesses in Minneapolis and St Paul that were either burned or looted and then were forced to close due to the riots, as well as the displaced thousands of displaced workers will want to read this book.
George Floyd didn’t deserve to die that day, it was wrong. But he was not a saint, he wasn’t a martyr. He was an addict that quite frankly no one cared about until after he was dead, and then only because of the money, protests, and violence that could be gained from that death.

TotallyDisenfranchised - You’re not wrong with a lot of the things you say, but I do not think anyone anywhere is calling him a “Saint”

shadow2351jl The quote at the back of the book talks about the martyrdom of George Floyd. Ridiculous.

No thanks I do not support criminals who died by hearing their story

Making police out of criminals is guaranteed to spook the planters.
Thanks notsure900, there is a deal of wisdom - and warning - in this book.

“Making heroes out of criminals is the age-old technic [sic] of looters.”
I can’t think of anything worse than making a hero out of a criminal; that’s why I’m cheering on Donald Trump.

Please bless us Saint George of fentynil…
May our high be true…
May our buzz he of the highathest..

I can’t breathe for laughing at this nonsense. The derangement of trying to beatify a dead monster is quite incredible. What will he be, the patron saint of pregnant woman abuse? The divine intercessor for junkies?

No doubt Robert Samuels and Toluse Olorunnipa are hard at work on their next book, His Name is Banko Brown.

Please spare me the fake idolization of a thug, drug addict, and criminal.
He put a gun to a pregnant women’s belly and threatened to kill her and kill her baby. Yeah, real nice guy.
How about the hurt he’s inflicted in his long and storied criminal career?
“who constantly strove for a better life”. No he didn’t! Stop lying!

It is really nice to see so many like minded people. Finally people are saying what they feel. This garbage deserves no less!

All the usual suspects cheering on a lynching.
Floyd was deliberately, slowly and cruelly murdered (as determined by a court) for the crime of passing a bad check.
And on the other side of the “two tiered justice system”, a white real estate dealer turned demagogue walks free despite numerous convictions for fraud, sexual assault and pending charges that would earn anyone else centuries in jail. No perp walk, no handcuffs. Free to call his mob to attack witnesses and justice staff.
August 10th, 2023
woke garbage praising a convicted criminal
I suggest all people who gave this crap 5 stars to see an interview of his wife

Thanks for uploading

Don’t know why racists bother to comment while breaking the law (we’re all criminals here!) in their mothers basement, when they clearly don’t care about Black people to begin with! surprised they can even read.
Thanks for uploading and thanks to the free internet for the dissemination of vital information

I’m not averse to BLMism, but I suspect Floyd is an odd choice of martyr in the struggle against racism, any more than Trump is a messenger from God.
A sad life, cut brutally short by a thug hiding behind a badge in a country that creates as many problems as it stands against. Nothing more nor less.
August 10th, 2023
Good day all you bootlicking fascist cowards. I knew you’d all be here like flies on shït.
It’s not ok for cops to kill people, even if you don’t like them. To believe otherwise makes you an actual fascist. That is the country that you want and that is why you deserve to fail.
August 10th, 2023
Amazing how one drug addicted petty criminal has become a saint.
August 10th, 2023
Gweilo-Yeah…to bad. He deserved a lot more than a slow death. If that was my pregnant wife he put the gun to, the cops wouldn’t have got the chance.
George was worthless.
August 10th, 2023
Some of you racist pigs are begging for a knock on the door.

On the plus side, he can’t come back from where he is. Saves the innocent from having to deal with him.
Now, let’s go make another opera for fentanyl floyd.
August 11th, 2023
The poor little leftists, the chickens are finally coming home to roost. Nobody cares about George Floyd because he was a scumbag. Derek Chauvin is the actual innocent casualty of this affair, serving a long prison sentence for Floyd’s Fentanyl overdose and the wrath of a political establishment propped up the fraud that was BLM.
August 11th, 2023
But it wasn’t a fentanyl overdose. That was proven in a court of law. I thought you racists loooove law and order. What happened? Pig cops get your vote right or wrong is it? Moral coward
August 11th, 2023
Seriously is there not a point at which the racists get their accounts just scrubbed. This is messed up.
August 11th, 2023
Ah yes, it’s racist not to bend your knee to an abject scumbag. Nobody would have liked him any more if he’d been white.
Mourning human garbage is a waste of the little intellectual capacity that you can muster Toady, why not do something useful with your life?
Like continuing to lick those windows, with a bit more practice, you’ll be a world champion at that.
August 12th, 2023
st. george was fent-addicted criminal. the black community needs better idols.

“If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you should feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction.
The most savage controversies are those about matters as to which there is no good evidence either way. Persecution is used in theology, not in arithmetic, because in arithmetic there is knowledge, but in theology there is only opinion. So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants.“
— Bertrand Russell, An Outline of Intellectual Rubbish (1943)
