Take one leader who “says what everyone is really thinking”, add a flair for public speaking and a way of making ordinary people feel like they are special, combine with the sort of simplistic solutions that a drunk at the end of the bar can think of. Add incompetent and elitist opposition and … bingo … populist leader with autocratic tendencies.
Rees argues here, in part, that Hitler’s popularity was as much about what the populace wanted at the time.

Those characteristics could capture most politicians & their “messaging” - battling against the people who don’t care about you, etc.
As the economy improved, support for the extremes of left & right declined. The extremes need crises & misery in order to spread.

Not giving the publishers any money by downloading via piracy sites is a start. They’re almost all owned by ‘God’s chosen people’. Amazon and other middlemen take their illegitimate cuts as well. Nobody should give a single penny to the slaveowner Bezos.
This book is unfortunately more of the typical money-making-machine by using Hitler’s name though. The description itself is already playing on the stereotype of the devil. He had great relationships, even with animals. Someone this description fits better would be Churchill for instance. The guy was a disloyal serial cheater and psychopathic mass murderer of civilians. But media loves to paint him in a positive light. Kind of like Obama, who turned remotely killing children via drones into an artform, but got the peace prize. Guantanamo will continue for many more years as well.
A serious book simply looking at the content would be interesting. Many of his speeches are translated to English, so probably best to just read a good translation directly.
One reason for him being popular probably was that he spoke openly about capitalism and how it abuses the people, something no regular politician ever did or does. He got people homes and food and stability. No matter how far ‘left’ you go today, none come even close to Hitler. They’re all rich and don’t want to lose their own source of luxury. Even someone like AOC makes multiples more money than a normal, honest, hardworking guy. Bernie has multiple mansions too. (without ever working in his life) On the other hand even Hitler’s famed mountain retreat was a joke compared to modern day politicians’ lifestyles. And it was a shared location with offices, guests and everything. He didn’t smoke or drink either. No fat cigars like Churchill.
