A Walk Through the Wilderness takes the listener on a harrowing adventure through the rigid psychological manipulation of a fundamentalist cult, the many joys and sorrows during the years of recovery afterwards, the seeming hopelessness of infertility, and finally to a joy realized.
Being raised in a liberal Christian home, Dan never imagined the sorrows he would face as his faith evolved into fundamentalist cult status. For many years, he lived under a rigid religious control structure that managed every aspect of his life and resulted in deep emotional scarring. During the years of recovery after his involvement, he and his wife Chanthy suffered through years of infertility which (combined with the cult experiences) resulted in both of them becoming atheists. There is hope, however, for Dan and Chanthy, as their journey leads them through the joy of a successful adoption effort and the coming to fruition of their desires for a happy and healthy family.
In Dan Conger’s audiobook, we experience his faith and his doubt, his sorrows and his hopes, his joys and his expectations for a bright future. The listener is welcomed to come along on A Walk Through the Wilderness.

starting in Liberal Christianity definitely makes one more vulnerable to the mythologies of atheism.

chrisxiii interesting that you fixate on that and not the *fundamentalist cult*. What, you think that makes one less ‘vulnerable’ to atheism?
Cause…yeah. Cults brainwash and make it hard to leave. Kinda what the book is about.

Chrisxii I don’t understand your use of “mythology of atheism” Atheism is just believing there is no God. This seems the opposite of any mythology. As an agnostic, I subscribe to the mythology of don’t know don’t care. Ty for the upload.

Yoyoyouo999- as opposed to some guy who’s just “Always been here” said some words and THEN everything came from nothing?
One key difference between science and religion can be understood by the saying “extraordinary claims require extraordinary EVIDENCE. People of faith have always taken any new scientific discovery as an attack on their beliefs, which is total nonsense, the vast majority of scientists are working to advance mankind, not disprove faith. Even so, when a new discovery is made that they feel challenges their faith, many inevitably resort to the “Well prove God doesn’t exist.” NO, that’s not sciences job, that’s RELIGIONS JOB. The job of science is to better understand the way the universe works, and takes steps towards proving many theories each year, what was the last great religious discovery that proved God’s existence?
