This is the story of two men and the two decisions that transformed world history in a single tumultuous year, 1917: Wilson’s entry into World War I and Lenin’s Bolshevik Revolution.
In April 1917, Woodrow Wilson, champion of American democracy but also segregation, advocate for free trade and a new world order based on freedom and justice, thrust the United States into World War I in order to make the “world safe for democracy” - only to see his dreams for a liberal international system dissolve into chaos, bloodshed, and betrayal.
That October, Vladimir Lenin, Communist revolutionary and advocate for class war and “dictatorship of the proletariat”, would overthrow Russia’s earlier democratic revolution that had toppled the all-power czar, all in the name of liberating humanity - and instead would set up the most repressive totalitarian regime in history, the Soviet Union.
In this incisive, fast-paced history, New York Times best-selling author Arthur Herman brilliantly reveals how Lenin and Wilson rewrote the rules of modern geopolitics. Through the end of World War I, countries marched into war only to increase or protect their national interests. After World War I, countries began going to war over ideas. Together, Lenin and Wilson unleashed the disruptive ideologies that would sweep the world, from nationalism and globalism to Communism and terrorism, and that continue to shape our world today.
Our New World Disorder is the legacy left by Wilson and Lenin and their visions of the perfectibility of man. One hundred years later, we still sit on the powder keg they first set the detonator to through war and revolution.

Great stuff, abb, Herman’s got some good material.
If not for short-term “thinking” by the Imperial German command, the slaughter of the Russian century could’ve been avoided (inclusive of the soviets starving millions of Ukrainians).
Disturbing to reflect that Wilson is the most educated person to ever hold the office of president.

It’s impossible to say that an emboldened & victorious imperial Germany wouldn’t have done as bad - or worse.
Trump loves the uneducated too (and the feeling is mutual), so enjoy the company you keep.
Oh, and you forgot to blame Churchill.

“Through the end of World War I, countries marched into war only to increase or protect their national interests.”
Hmm, what about the religious wars fought across Europe in the first half of the 17th century?
Now you could make the claim that religion was just an excuse and it was about national interests really, but you could equally say that about ideas too.

You left the projector on again. Mention of the Holodomor/ideologically-driven famines must have been a right kick in the doctrines for you. You’ll have to swiftly dismiss it as “Fake Nooze” I suppose.
That kind of malignant statist evil takes toxic genocidal ideology. See Russia, China, Germany, Cambodia, Ethiopia, North Korea, Vietnam, Cuba, Italy, Eastern Europe, etc. etc. The people are always the enemy for those blood-stained ideologies.
Wars are fought for reasons of resources, territory, power & fear. Mindless ideology may be comfortably accommodated under those rubrics.
Oh, and properly attributing blame to Churchill, and imperialism generally, also stings, eh? Aww…

Hang on, you’re high-sterically upset that I offended your “champion of segregation” - that’s it? That stuff clearly runs deep. How do people like you end up on a book site anyway? Get lost on the way to one of yer Hate Sites? You’ll be targeting the Jeeewz! again next. Oy.

Good stuff- if any of you all (with your libraries of digital classics) happen to find/access any of Anatoliy Golitsyn’s work, Antony Sutton (besides Fed Reserve/Skull and bones- possibly ‘Wall Street Trilogy’ etc), and/or Gordon Thomas’ work- much appreciate it. Great work there that more people would access if it were on audio, easy ‘work along’ format. Thanks
